Rev. Shawn Allen, Ph.D.
Executive Director, Community Life

Shawn’s story is a story of Unity in Diversity.
Unity in Diversity of Geography
Shawn was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia (with a brief stint in Louisville, KY). He has served congregations in the South (Lynchburg and Richmond, Virginia), New England (Boston and Middleboro, Massachusetts), and Florida (Orlando and Greenacres).
Intrigued by its cultural diversity and spiritual need, Shawn and his family relocated to South Florida in 2012. A few years later he realized the greatest impact he could make on the region: inspiring South Floridians to answer Jesus’ prayer by joining God’s mission together.
Unity in Diversity of Education
Shawn earned an undergraduate degree in Biblical Studies from a Baptist university, a Master of Divinity from a Reformed seminary, completed his coursework for his PhD in Practical Theology at a Catholic university, and graduated with his PhD from a non-denominational university. An ordained minister, he teaches at Palm Beach Atlantic University, serves as Associate Director for Pedagogy and Strategic Initiatives for the university’s Voices for Change preaching program, and teaches private and group music lessons.
Unity in Diversity of Family
The Allen Family story started as a song. Shawn is a multi-instrumentalist whose favorite notes are the ones not on the page, and whose favorite rhythms are the ones not on the beat. So it’s no surprise that at 19, he fell in love the moment he heard a beautiful girl sing a song she had written. They’ve been making music and a family together ever since. Sara blesses South Floridians as an Acupuncture Physician, future Acupuncturists as a Professor, and Acupuncture Professors by teaching them how to teach more effectively.
God wrote a beautiful song Himself as he gave Shawn and Sara children with ancestral ties to four continents . . .
Nellie is 23, and works as an Executive Assistant at a law firm while she studies Crime Scene Investigation. Her son Phoenix made Shawn and Sara (very young-looking) grandparents in 2022.
Grace, 21, works at the front desk for a preschool while she studies Communication at the University of Central Florida.
Walker is 19, has completed one semester studying Popular Music at Palm Beach Atlantic University, and works at a veterinary clinic.
